How the checkers work

Each checker takes a bare domain name — nothing else. There are no URLs, paths or ports to supply, and the service only ever connects to the standard web ports of the domain you name. It then works through its checks independently: an HTTP probe for reachability and response time, a TLS handshake for the certificate, a registry (RDAP) lookup for the domain's registration record, and DNS queries for the records that route traffic and mail. Because the sections are independent, one failing part never hides the rest — a site with a broken web server still shows its certificate and expiry dates, which is usually exactly what you need to fix it.

Results are cached briefly, so a report you share with a colleague shows the same snapshot you saw, labelled with the time it was taken. When a certificate or domain is inside ninety days of expiry, the report says so loudly and offers free continuous monitoring through myeventwatch, because a countdown you have to remember to re-check is only half a solution.
